Drabble: Entreaty
Title: Entreaty
Author: Lilith ([info]lilithilien)
Characters: Draco
Prompt: #9 Choices for [info]draco100
Word Count: 100 words
Rating: Gen
Disclaimer: I own absolutely nothing.

Draco had made many choices, some good, some bad, some unbelievably stupid. But never in all his forty years had he faced one that threatened to so completely derail everything he knew. He stared at the hand on his thigh, hidden under the Leaky's grimy bar. Out of sight but oh so heavy, weighted down by Asteria, Ginny, their children, this budding friendship with Potter that could so easily go pear-shaped...

But when he looked up that weight floated away, feather-light in the face of Potter's desire.

"Come up to my room," Harry entreated again, and this time, Draco nodded.

I would've made the same choice. Very nice!

The right choice? Who knows. But I'd say a good one.

Extra super-squee bonus points for using Julian Sands for adult Draco. He has always been my choice for that.

Other kind of bonus points for Asteria (not with an 'o', kthx.)

I'm so glad you approve! I always loved Julian Sands, and as soon as I read that line about Draco's receding hairline I knew he'd be perfect for the part.

And yeah, Asteria makes so much more sense, I think, since both she and Daphne were figured in Greek mythology. Say what you like about JKR, but she's usually got a sound system for naming (Narcissa being the exception, of course).

Thanks so much for your comment!

Me, too. Julian Sands is a favourite of mine, too, and he has that pointed look. I'm sure she's had him in mind when writing that.

*nods* It's become a peeve of mine. Why the heck would she name a girl like her for a part of NYC or a hotel instead of another Greek mythological name? She even explained why Narcissa is an exception.

Sorry to butt in but I am curious about Narcissa being 'an exception'-what do you mean? I'm sure it's fairly obvious but I am coming up blank.

I don't mind butting in at all :-)

Narcissa doesn't have a star name as all the other Blacks, she has a flower name. JK said early on that this was because the name Narcissa occurred to her and just happened to fit the character so well she didn't want to change it.

Yes, of course. I think I got confused because of your comment about Asteria: Why the heck would she name a girl like her for a part of NYC or a hotel instead of another Greek mythological name? She even explained why Narcissa is an exception. So I was thinking "Narcissa is a Greek mythological name", missing the real point. Anyway, thanks for sorting me out. And honestly, I always liked the sound of Astoria better in my mind but now that you've explained it, I think I will spell it Asteria from now on as it does make more sense.

Yay! Another convert to Asteria!!

In a footnote to one of my stories I wrote: I should mention my preference for "Asteria" rather than "Astoria." Asteria, the Titan who escaped Zeus by turning herself into an island, fits the same naming scheme as Daphne, the Greek nymph who escaped from Apollo by turning herself into a laurel tree. In choosing these names, it might reveal some problems that the Greengrasses had with daughters, but I think they would have been consistent. So that's why I've done it this way.

Honestly, reading it like that, I would have confused me, too, if I didn't know, what I was talking about ;-)

I like the sound of Astoria better, too, but I can't make it work in my 'verse *S*

Whoa! Love the metaphor of the hand being heavy, not so much physically, but by everything that would say 'no' to them.

Thank you so much! Yeah, as time and epilogues pile on the reasons to say 'no' would certainly grow, but I still like to think it would be worth it for them to say 'yes.' I'm so glad that you liked it!

So much turmoil and emotion in so few words. Well done.

What a nice comment, I'm so glad you enjoyed the turmoil -- I do love putting poor Draco through the ringer.

Love it--you can feel the weight of Draco's decision and still the underlining desire there (and Harry's bedroom eyes--or is that just me? *g*) And of course Draco has to say yes--he can't resist. ;)

Lovely!

Thank you! No, it's not just you seeing Harry's bedroom eyes. I bet when he wants something, he can make them smoulder. ;)
