As Dudley drove up, Harry ran toward his car. "How is she?"

"She's not breathing. Bring her back, Harry!"

Dudley's demanding tone was familiar, but for his mother Harry could excuse him. Harry felt for a pulse that wasn't there on skin already gone cold.

"I can't, Dudley. I'm sorry."

Between sobs, his cousin asked, "What good is magic if you can't bring someone back to life?"

Harry thought of Remus, of Fred, of his parents. Of Colin, Dumbledore, and yes, even Snape. A decade later, the pain was still raw. "I don't know," he whispered. "I really don't know."

Thank you. I seemed to be ratcheting up the pain this weekend for some reason. Drabbles are a good outlet for that, it seems. ;)
